Omicron: What You Need to Know

Omicron: What You Need to Know

With the rise of coronavirus, people are more adamant about protecting themselves and their loved ones. To do so, people have to educate themselves about their risk of getting infected with the virus and be in the know with the latest COVID-19 updates, especially its variants. As a provider of Covid testing in Montclair, California, we make it a point to provide you with accurate information on COVID-19 so you may protect yourselves and your loved ones better.

COVID-19 is a disease caused by the coronavirus which is transmitted through airborne particles which range from larger respiratory droplets to smaller aerosols. This virus is highly contagious and has affected millions of lives around the world. And like many others, the virus changes too. Its genetic changes gave rise to its variants, infamous for their concerning mutations.

Omicron, the latest COVID variant, was first identified in South Africa. The record shows that the variant spreads faster than the earlier variants and its subvariants are more infectious than their predecessor. Vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals can be affected by the variant which may require them to seek urgent care.

Persons affected with Omicron present similar symptoms to the previous variants. However, the severity of the variant may be milder than the other variants. Only a small percentage of patients infected with Omicron need hospitalization due to severe symptoms. Vaccination remains to be the best proactive measure to protect the public from getting infected with the virus and having severe diseases. Other proactive measures include an Antibody Test, Antigen Test, and many more.
