The Dos and Don’ts of Getting Your COVID-19 Vaccine

The Dos and Don’ts of Getting Your COVID-19 Vaccine

The COVID-19 vaccines protect individuals and communities from serious illnesses caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. When enough people in a community are vaccinated and protected, the virus cannot easily spread. Hence, if you want to avoid serious illness and a PCR test in California, it’s essential to get vaccinated.

Here, we discuss the dos and don’ts of getting your COVID-19 vaccine.

DOs

Contact your care provider or visit a walk-in clinic if you have side effects from the vaccine that last more than 72 hours. Common mild effects include headache, fever and chills, joint pain, and muscle pain from the injection site. These side effects are normal and the result of your body responding to the vaccine.

It’s also essential to stay hydrated before and after your vaccination to shorten the duration and intensity of side effects. Eat a well-balanced diet and get at least 7-8 hours of sleep. After receiving the vaccine, the body relies on immune responses to develop protection. Sleep deprivation can cause suppressed immunity and trigger stress.

DON’Ts

Avoid tobacco and alcohol as they may aggravate and worsen side effects. It’s also best to avoid strenuous physical activity for at least 2-3 days after getting vaccinated. Do not miss the second dose of the vaccine to ensure immunity.

If you experience COVID-19 symptoms before getting vaccinated, your doctor may recommend testing. An antibody test determines if you’ve had a past infection with the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
