Care Tips to Protect Seniors from the Omicron Variant

Care Tips to Protect Seniors from the Omicron Variant

care-tips-to-protect-seniors-from-the-omicron-variant

In November of last year, a novel variant of the coronavirus was reported to the World Health Organization. Omicron was designated as a variant of concern by the U.S. with its first confirmed case discovered by December. The variant spreads more easily than earlier variants of the virus.

Hence, COVID testing through a PCR test is essential to determine if a person is infected with the disease, while an antibody test is recommended to detect a previous infection. Likewise, we will share care tips to help protect seniors and their caregivers from the variant:

  • Maintain Social Distancing
With the emergence of this newer variant, preventive measures like social distancing remain more important than ever. Social distancing is an effective defense in deterring the spread of infection. This is especially true for seniors and any individual with a compromised immune system.
  • Schedule Vaccination and Booster Shots
Seniors who haven’t received their COVID-19 vaccine should schedule their vaccination appointments as soon as possible. Booster shots can also help significantly improve protection. If you suspect a senior loved one is exhibiting symptoms, be sure to schedule a PCR test in California to determine if they are infected.
  • Improve Immunity
Above all, seniors and their caregivers should focus on improving their overall immunity. They can do so by getting enough sleep, maintaining a healthy diet, and reducing stress. Additionally, they should visit their local walk-in clinic for treatment of acute illnesses like colds, dehydration, and similar.
